My family has always enjoyed a good camping trip and stargazing. My husband and I realized our kids have never seen the milky way so we took a one night trip to copper breaks state park in Texas. Copper Breaks is a " Dark Sky" park one of 2 in Texas. The end of July-August is supposed to be the best time to see the milky way, and I have read you are supposed to be able to see it through October but I don't know how accurate that is. The moon was in day 1 of new moon cycle which made it barely visible, perfect star gazing conditions. Before anybody packs up and heads to copper breaks state park heed this warning.. the temps are intense, like heat stroke hot so please go prepared for that. We arrived around dinner time and drank a ton of water and took our time setting up. This state park is gorgeous, and we have decided we want to go back in the fall when its cooler out to explore the park. This trip, was just for the stars. My older brought his telescope and I, my camera, and we had the most fun viewing and capturing the night sky. Since we were the only crazy people to endure the Texas heat in the Texas desert we were the only people at the camp ground, that was so amazing. Just us, and the milky way, and the crickets..
